Thought this might be a good place if anyone wanted to post images of paint jobs, conversions or game related art projects. This way, we do not clutter up MikeG's Kitchen Sink thread.
Remember that you can upload images to a free Photobucket.com account. I found out in the FAQ that you cannot upload images to this board (other than avatars) directly. Storing your photos on Photobucket lets you link to them for display here.

Re: Projects: Past, Present & Future

MikeG,
This is the banner I was talking about. Wish I could get a better pic of it (the image is too blotchy), but I just snapped the shot a few minutes ago.
I've been wanting to make some more banners as my painting skills have increased (I started this one about 11 or 12 years ago). I've been trying to work myself up to start on a fullsize Skaven banner. It would be about 12 or so feet high. Ambition is the number one killer of hobbyist.

12+ft? Yikes! Insane... you've gone mad. Where would you store such a thing? Or are you planning to just roll it up and bring it out when needed?
Tim,
I do remember that banner. I might have to dig up some of my photos to see if I have a pic of your banner. I'm sure I saw that one before. I'm just not looking forward to searching my 1 TeraByte hard drive worth of photos/videos. (i can already hear your dirty jokes)

Re: Projects: Past, Present & Future
Just to remind everyone, this thread was started so people could share the work in progress or share modelling tips and such.
As a side part of the Mordheim campaign, I will doing a lot of conversions and making terrain. I'll probably start a new thread for that. It will include tips and tricks and it can be used to ask questions regarding modelling. I'll post lessions that are relevent to what I am working on at the time. Pictures and everything.

The material was canvas and a lot of the paints are GW. Also mixed different stuff for the fading effect. Sorry it took so long to answer, didn't see it until I posted my previous message in this thread.

Re: Projects: Past, Present & Future
Just a few pics of miniatures from the various Grand Tournaments Davina and I have attended...

This Bolt Thrower is from Davina's Dark Elf army she first used in the 2002 L.A. Grand Tournament. It is one of my favorite pieces she has done.

This was done for my Vampire Counts army, also used for the L.A. Grand Tourney. That year we were required to make three destroyed war machine markers for scenarios. This one was a Black Coach being ambushed by a team of witch hunters. Besides the Black Coach, I used Mordheim plastics and Brettonian Squire figs. The pics here were taken by "Dirty" Steve, I think, the GW photographer. If anyone is interested, I can take some new photos from various angles to show more detail.
I am proud of the Black Coach, because I was given a prize for the best Warhammer special models.
Hopefully, I'll get some pics of mine and Davina's 40k stuff up next. Yes, Davina at one time actually played 40k.

Re: Projects: Past, Present & Future

A few more pictures from a Grand Tournament. This was also an objective piece made for my Vampire Counts army. I used a Judge Death action figure, a Warp-Lightning Cannon, chains and various other bits including wheels from chariots to a Screaming Bell.
The story behind the piece was that Skaven had told a necromancer that they had a way of animating undead that relied upon warpstone. The Skaven also convinced the undead that because of the warpstone, the undead wouldn't deteriorate if the leader were destroyed. Leaving the project of animating the undead giant unfinished, The ratmen scurried off with the warpstone the necromancer gave them. Thus, the giant was made to look incomplete.

This is a close up of the leg and arm to show the detail of how the Skaven were assembling the giant. To make the model look like it was kit-bashed together from various 'parts', I decided to simulate stitching. To do this, first I cut/scored along the figure creating deep lines within the model's 'flesh' (the original figure is actually depicted as wearing a one piece uniform). After painting the the cuts to look like fresh wounds, I drilled dozens of pairs of holes to hold the stitches. The actual stitches themselves are paper clips snipped and bent to hold a shape like a staple, then glueing them into the holes. The stitches were painted with a base of Snakebite Leather paint.

To give the impression that the ratmen were involved, I used pieces from different Skaven models. The prominent piece is the Warp-Lighting Cannon used to look like a powerplant/engine. The gears are wheels from various models and the chains were from a necklace.
The entire project took about one week to assemble and paint. I later entered it into a Strategicon painting contest, and if I remember correctly, it took 2nd place.
Soon, I would like to post some of the Skaven pieces of done over the years.

Re: Projects: Past, Present & Future
Found these as I was sorting the pics from the Mordheim Campaign. These are a couple of simple conversions from a Mage Knight Wood Golem. It and two others took 2nd place at a Stategicon painting contest.

First I repainted the miniature then added some lichen and tree fluff to it. I wanted to give it that leafy look...

I also added the bird which was part of an older Wood Elf Hero from Games Workshop.
I hope to get some pictures taken of my Vampire Count army for Warhammer Fantasy Battles before they are gone. If I can get them taken I will post the pictures.

Re: Projects: Past, Present & Future
Been awhile since I posted in this thread. I'm gonna be starting a mass painting project, soon, to get my Flames of War army done. I plan on posting some pics of the progression of painting as well as conversions, etc.
Also, if anyone has painting/conversion questions, you can ask them in this thread and I will do my best (sometimes with pics to illustrate) to help.
